texture resolution default

We had an idea in class that has been discussed before.

Since we are a 3d world we use units. We can think in pixels too, but its not native.

However, it would be cool to have the option of using a texture resolution/aspect based default for a layer.

What if in a layer inspector you could choose a checkbox where the content applied to that layer was treated differently. The layer would look at THAT contents inspector to see its resolution. Then the layer could dynamically choose the appropriate object size that cooperate with the default layer and camera settings to achieve a 'pixel accurate' simulation of that layer in a 3d world.

Is this even possible?

Hey,

this is a brush that is on our list. I just had a talk to the developers and we were thinking about what could be done to improve the usabiliy for the feature.
The main problem will be that moving such a layer (on X/Y) will result in non-pixel exact displays. My idea was to make the controls with pixels as the unit (X: -20px).

Do you have any better/further ideas?

Best regards
Dennis

The only option needed, it seems, is that as long as the default of the layer results in a pixel accurate representation of the layer. anything after that its user be educated and user beware. typically this feature would only be in the case of a 2d output device within a the bounds of its output pixels.

Per-pixel movement would be ideal.

If the camera were in a orthogonal mode, then position changes should not distort the image right?
But it would definitely be better to have pixel accurate controls on the layer and not force the end-user to know advanced settings.

its almost like 'easy mode'

I wanted to resurrect this topic and clarify a bit from an end user perspective.

The sole purpose of this feature, from my point of view, would allow a user to import an image and playback it back at native pixel resolution - or 'pixel exact' may be the feature name. There are workarounds that achieve this currently, but they are just that - workarounds (create warp object to match the pixel resolution of image to be played). I don't think categorizing this as an 'easy' mode is fully accurate - *cough* sam.

For example, we deal a lot with LED wall systems. To further support the suggestions above, how about a dynamic approach to the camera settings? A 3d world is not necessary for our systems (or any LED wall system?).

We greatly appreciate the other key features of PB (sync for one) which is why we don't mind the 'workarounds' at this phase, but implementing this strong feature would be huge in the LED world.

Curious as to the status of this feature on the wish list as well....

Stay tuned for Ver 5.7
Looks like there will be a great and powerful solution for the problem.

The RC of Version 5.7 is out.
Please check it out and let us know if this is a solution and workflow that works for your feature request.
