Pos, spin and size values in pixels

Postby simonj » Mon Jan 13, 2014 4:31 pm

We have had a number of students asking how they accurately calculate and then adjust the position of an image by a specific number of pixels. It would be great if we had the option to change the display values from screen units or percentages to pixels.
Let’s say that I add a 1920x1080 test pattern onto my timeline and I want to move the position of this image by 100 pixels in X. It would make operations so much easier if I could add or subtract an exact pixel value to accurately move my image. This could be applied to all relevant areas including cameras, outputs and the pos, spin, scale parameters.

Hi Simon,

We got this request from a couple of people, so it is on the list. The biggest Problem is that those people always forget that PandorasBox does not live in 2D, but in 3D Space, so all your Numbers will only be true if you do not change you Z Pos or your Camera or your Output.
Having said this, we are looking into ways of where we can display pixel. Some of the new ImageAdjust PX calculate in Pixel. Working this way has benefits and also downsides.

I am totally with you on position.
This is an essential feature that I hope to see soon.

But what do you mean by spin? How can you measure rotation by pixels? This should always be a degree count. Lets never go back to the pre-version V method of rotation where it some arbitrary amount.

Scaling by pixels is tricky too. It would require an option in each container or layer to make, in lieu of an object, the content pixel accurate at camera pos 'null'. This would avoid the warper work-around. After that, scale by pixels is possible.

Sorry Matthew...my bad :0(
I didn't mean to include spin in pixels, it should always be in degrees.

I am so used to using the words pos, spin and size togther that I missed this point.

Cheers
