Virtual Machine Wish

Postby JustynR » Fri Feb 14, 2014 5:50 am

I am sure this is just an oversight -

When using a multi - output machine, we have the option to select what output a layer is or is not routed to.

However, when creating a virtual machine - we can have 2 to X cameras and outputs but we do not have the option to route layers!

This would be very very helpful and would speed up programming a lot!
Right now I have many shows that have multiple Players that I program separately because of this missing check-box...

Also, if I select an individual Layer through the Virtual Site tab and change the position of each layer individually, it will only store and recall the 1 keyframe of the top most site / layer...
Is there any way around this or if I want 1 video in 2 places (on 2 different machines), do I need to use 2 layers?

Thank you,

Hi,

You can change the routing for each layer in the upcoming 5.7

Currently the only way to route (only per site) is to delete a site-layer out of a virtual-layer using the Virtual Site Tab. So delete layer 1 of site 2 out of virtual layer 1 to have a site 1 only layer (this is permanent!)

Only the first layer keys will be saved and applied to all layers in the virtual layer. That is how it is supposed to work. We allow active values on the site-layers though.

Best regards

Is this called layer routing?
I am just making sure because I usually do not call this routing.
When you click on the layer - in the inspector - you will see a choice to deselect outputs underneath "Render Layer in Pass:" and then have a choice of outputs.

I think of layer routing as routing one layer to another (right clicking on media and sharing layer texture)...

I would like to see this too. I have avoided virtual sites for a while now because of this.
Is this the feature that will be available in 5.7 or is this a different thing?

Hi,

5.7 will allow to configure routing for each layer in a virtual layer separately.

I don't count "Share layer texture" as routing. For me it is merely a special case of media assignment. (but I see the point you make)

IMHO "Layer Routing" is the stuff you setup in "Render Layer in Pass"

Gotcha. Thanks!
Just getting the terminology straight.

5.7 sounds exciting.
