Reliable ASIO Cards

Postby Dave Thompson » Fri Oct 02, 2015 3:18 pm

Hello!
We have 2 MOTU Ultralite Mk3 Hybrids. One has died and it is apparently the A/D convertor. (I have heard from an Audio Engineer that he has had it happen on his 828 and it is quite a common problem) It would also give dc spikes or clicks every now and then when using USB. But have had no more issues when using Firewire.
What is everybody been using that works?
I am looking at getting an RME Fireface 800 or 802. The Audio guys here rave about them.
The last point is running it over USB, as I have ordered a Dell M3800 as a more mobile manager.
Has anybody had any issues with RME cards over USB?

I have the RME Fireface UFX.
It has both Fire Wire 400 and USB.

I have 4 (multiple rentals / setups are always going...) and I've never had a problem with any of them.

I use them half of the time with Firewire and the other half with USB. (some of my players don't have Firewire). For what we're using them for (10 outputs on 2 occasions), they're perfect with both USB and Firewire.

I have used other products and have had issues with clicking, syncing, unwanted FX, and PB / Windows even seeing the card.

As soon as we switched to RME, all of those problems disappeared.

I can't recommend them enough!

I hope this helps,

Thank you for your Input Justyn!
Do you know if their drivers support Win 8.1 for the UFX?

same experience with the RME fireface UFX here too, we have 2 setups working with that without any problem, works like a charm.

also very good experience (stability wise) with the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB (however soundquality is not top level).

The next question:
Has any anybody be able to run a soundcard over Thunderbolt? Considering the Motu 828x.
