Masks Softedge

Hi all, i'm playing with gmax for some tests, making masks and warped surfaces.
Do someone know how to soften the edges of a cutted plane in pandoras? everytime i cut something in gmax, to make masks, i get a pixelate effect that is not really nice.

thanks for your help

Marcello

The jagged line is really something that you probably can't get rid of... even if you have a nice diagonal line, you will still have that jagged line.

Why would you not use the PB warper to do warping and masking?
There are some very nice features that are easier to use and very straight forward...

Hi Justin
I prefer gmax for the same reason i prefer Pandoras Box:
It has more possibilities!
PB Warper has paitbrush tool for masking, so nice, but i feel better with lines and points instead of brushes and forms.
Also it's possible to hide some faces, but it's never possible to cut one face, very useful when you have more than one object to map in the same output.

I found a workaround:
make the cutted plane in gmax, load it on a graphic layher with a white bitmap, then export the preview output into PNG file.
Load the PNG into a graphic layer on the top, apply white key and blur XY effect. That's it! Masked surface with gmax and softborder.

I think it would be very nice to have an Aeon FX that makes soft border for the imported surface.

Hello Marcello,

if you load the mesh on a layer you could either use the Softedge effects in the Aeon FX folder "Softedge"and define the softness of each site in the same way you do a softedge with a mesh loaded onto the Output layer
or you could use the Softborder effect in the Aeon FX folder "Cropping"

Please let me know if that´s what you were looking for, thanks

btw, did you know that you can setup more than one mesh withing the warper, maybe that would make it easier as well... when having several meshes you can either export all at once having the same content scaled and positioned differently according to each mesh
or you export one mesh after another ("Export selected") then you can have a background warp and a masking warp on two different layers

greetings,

Hello Martina,

I know the softedge and softborder functions.
I saw also the multiple mesh option of the warper, pretty nice. Unfortunately these solutions are not what I'm imagining... :-)
When you have to cut circular or irregular forms, for example, no one of these works very well, not for my experience.

I think it would be very nice and fast to have an Aeon FX that makes softborders to the mesh, not to the content.
This will allow complex warping and surface masking be soften in one click.

Hi Marcello,
after having a closer look especially at irregular forms I understand what you mean. We have added the featurewishes to our list. It is not as trivial as it might sound, thus it might take the developers a little while to implement it .
Thank you very much for your feedback !

Greetings,

I look forward to see the new Aeon FX on the next release.

Thank you

Hi,
well, as the "next" release is on its way since a couple of days, I hope you allow us a little more time for that feature ;)
