Windows 10

Postby Jason Riordan » Mon Oct 16, 2017 11:30 pm

Hi there,

I'm just wondering where we are at with the use of Windows 10 (Pro x64)? I have numerous customers that are asking me this question and I would like to provide them with the correct info. As of right now it's getting very hard for Canadian's to buy Windows 8.1 (either through Distribution or online services) and Windows 7 options are also getting to same point so it seems that we need to have answers for ourselves and customers on where the road map is headed.

Thanks!

Hi everybody,

we did a lot of testing on Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit and do now Support Windows 10 starting with

  • PB Manager 6.0 Rev 15432 or newer
  • PB Software Player 6.0 Rev 15432 or newer
  • PB Menu 6.1.0
  • PB WidgetDesigner 6800

Please make sure that you have the latest Windows 10 Pro.
All tests were done with Windows 10 Version 1709 Rev 10.0.16299.19
and NVIDIA Driver Version 377.61.

earlier Versions of Windows 10 might work, but can also cause a lot of problems, especially in Multi Display Setups.

We also do not offer any support for Windows 10 Home or 32 Bit Versions.

Hi Jason,
no coolux server should be updatet to Windows 10.
Why do you want to do that?

You would loose warranty. Windows 10 offers no benefit over Windows 8.1.
Windows 10 compatibility is there for everybody who buys a new Computer for Managers or Players and is not able to install Windows 8.1 on it.

Hi Daniel,

This is great news.

I'll definitely will be trying this on a few machines just to see how well the systems are reacting with the OS/PB and nVidia P4000's on multiple layers and syncing with older Windows 7 machines to see if there are any latency issues. Have you tried this to see if there is any noticeable problems like there were with the old servers/players running XP and newer ones running Windows 7?

Hi Jason,
no we did not, but I am interested to know what you find out. Just email us/me your findings.
And just to make it clear. Windows 10 is not the recommended OS. At this point we still recommend Windows 8.1

Windows 10 1809 is creating a lot of Problems right now, so do not update to Win 10 1809.
Dark Skin will not work and a lot of tools have issues also.

Hi Jeremy,

Microsoft is changing a lot of GUI Components right now with every new Win 10 Release.
Windows 10 1809 is working fine again and you should not have any issues with Pandoras Box or any of the tools.
Windows 10 1903 is not fully tested yet and I would advice to stay on 1809 for now. There are no features in 1903 that are needed for Pandoras Box or would improve Pandoras Box and 1809 is still getting security patches from Microsoft.

We will keep you updated once we clear Windows 10 1903.

Update: I just learned that Basic tests with Windows 10 1903 have been done, and so far it is looking good. But if you can we still recommend 1809.
