tracking camera compatible

Postby tizianos » Tue Jan 16, 2018 12:54 pm

dear all,
I kindly ask if you can provide me a list with all the compatible tracking camera (like optitrack) with the widget designer+grandma 2.
I'm looking for something cheaper than optitrack.
furthermore, in order to track the position, can I use all the optitrack cameras? I mean all the prime, flex and slim series.
thank you for your time,
regards,

tiziano

The answer is NO.
The tracking is based on Optitracks Cameras, because they work great.
What kind of other cameras do you have in mind?

I have in mind to use the color tracking system with this camera: https://www.zipato.com/product/indoor-ptz-ip-camera
do you think it will work?

You can probably do blob tracking/color tracking with that, but definitely not tag tracking.
Keep in mind color tracking does not work if you are shining lights/projection on the point that you are tracking because that inherently changes the color of the object you are tracking. Using an IR filter/lights and blob tracking is usually the better choice if tags are not available.

Also, you need to find out if the camera has a directshow filter for it ("virtual webcam").
If not, you will need to use some 3rd party software to convert the IP stream to directshow.

I think there may be a misunderstanding by what is meant by "Tracking Cameras".

Optitrack cameras are used primarily for Motion Capture: the process or technique of recording patterns of movement digitally.
Usually, this is done with passive markers on an object, actor or performer to track their body and record it.

In the case of Christie's Widget Designer, we use active infrared tags called "ID Tags".
With these tags, we can uniquely track points with these Optitrack cameras.

The cameras themselves don't move, they track the IR Tags and relay that information into a Node System inside of Pandoras Box.

The type of 'tracking camera' you're referring to moves to 'track' an individual or an object itself.
While Widget Designer can do this, this is not what the Optitrack Camera tracking system is designed for.

I hope this helps explain,
