In Windows 10, version 1709, Windows Server version 1709, and Windows Server 2019, the SMB2 client no longer allows the following actions:

Guest account access to a remote server
Fallback to the Guest account after invalid credentials are provided

see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... indows-ser

Solution: Run "gpedit.msc", then navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Lanman Workstation and set Enable insecure guest logons to Enabled

ok i worked this out!
the problem was on my server, the mounted volume for the content folder (which for me is a 1.2TB PCI-E SSD) was mounted at the 'content' folder inside the 'coolux' folder. (this is now the 'Christie' folder).
but this can't be like this, it should be the 'coolux' folder that is the mounted drive. when you share the 'coolux' folder windows cannot write the permissions and share information through correctly through the mounted drive.
but if the mounted drive is the folder one layer up, being the 'coolux/christie' folder, then its all just fine!!!!
