ASIO Soundcards (PB Version 5.x)

Postby Daniel Kaminski » Fri Feb 03, 2012 6:17 pm

Hi everybody,

here is a list of ASIO Soundcards that have been tested by coolux and are working with Version 5.
Even with approved drivers and hardware, we / our customers have seen issues with USB 3.0 ports.

Windows XP 32

RME External Firewire Interfaces
    Driver Version: win_fire_3047.zip
  • Fireface 800 External FireWire Interface

RME Internal PCI and PCIe Audiocards
    Driver Version: hdsp_wdm_326.zip
  • HDSP 9632 PCI Card
  • HDSP 9652 PCI Card
  • HDSP MADI PCI Card
  • HDSPe AIO PCIe Card
  • HDSPe RayDAT PCIe Card
  • HDSPe MADI PCIe Card

Motu External Interfaces
    Driver Version: MOTU_Audio_Installer-Win-110806.zip
  • mk3 UltraLite (Firewire is prefered, USB sometimes looses the connection to the PC)
  • 828 mk2
  • 828 mk3
Update Okt 2014: Please note that we have heard about a lot of problems of people using the Motu MK3 Ultralight lately. It seams to be driver related!

Tested and NOT recommended or NOT working.

  • Edirol FA-101 with Driver FA-101_WinXp_v102.zip
The Driver is very tricky. Out of 3 Testsystems we were only able to get it working on 1 after a couple of Driver reinstalls and reboots.

Windows 7 64

RME Internal PCI and PCIe Audiocards
    Driver Version: hdsp_wdm_3085.zip
  • HDSPe MADI PCIe Card
Since it is the same driver for all HDSP PCI and PCIe Cards we expect all these cards to work without any problems.

RME External Firewire Interfaces
    Driver Version: win_fire_3067.zip
  • Fireface 800 External FireWire Interface

Motu External Interfaces
    Driver Version: MOTU_Audio_Installer-Win-120109.zip
  • mk3 UltraLite
Update Okt 2014: Please note that we have heard about a lot of problems of people using the Motu MK3 Ultralight lately. It seams to be driver related!

Dante Virtual Soundcard
    Driver Version: 3.2.1
  • Windows 7 with separate NIC !!

Windows 8.1 64

RME Internal PCI and PCIe Audiocards
    Driver Version: 3.4.2
  • HDSPe MADI PCIe Card
  • HDSPe AIO PCIe Card
  • HDSPe RayDat PCIe Card
Since it is the same driver for all HDSP PCI and PCIe Cards we expect all these cards to work without any problems.

Tested by Clients

AudioScience Interfaces
    Driver Version: unknown
    OS Version: Windows 7 64
  • AudioScience 6414 Cobranet Card

E-MU
    Driver Version: unknown
    OS Version: Windows 7 64
  • E-MU 1212PCI-e Card

Focusrite
Driver Version: 1.8, 2.4 and 3.2 have been tested
    OS Version: Windows 7
  • Focusrite Scarlet 18i20 - USB Rackmount unit
  • Focusrite Saffire Pro40 - Firewire Rackmount unit
  • Focusrite Saffire 6 USB - USB Tabletop unit

More Testresults and approved cards will follow.

You get what you pay for....

You can probably find one for 50 bucks, but do you really want to use it???

...but this is not a "Pandoras Box problem"...

Often good gear costs a little more than other stuff and most of the times these are qualitative and reliable products what we have tested and recommended.

There will be more and more Devices added, as soon as they are tested or approved by customers on productions.

One of the devices I used with Windows 7 is the Motu Ultralike MK3. I did serveral productions without any problems on it.
I have forgotten the driver Version that is why it is not yet on the List.
It works fine and is on the very low end of the price range.
I need to check back with the company who uses this card which driver Version they use.

I have updated the tested List.
MK3 Ultralite as well as Fireface 800 are on there for Windows 7 now.

If you use a different Interface let us know how it works and which Driver and OS you are using.

Hi!

Does anyone runs the Motu 828 mk3 on Windows 7?
Really prefer the 19" Device rather than the ultralite and isn't much different in pricing.

Thanks!

We just used the UltraLite on a show and it worked great... the only step I nearly missed was setting the Hz on the ASIO Configuration page.

Hey Craig,

thanks for sharing!
Setting the wrong SampleRate can really lead to a strange audio behavior. :-)

Could you please provide more information about your OS and the driver version, or was it the recommended one?

Used the recommended driver version - which I downloaded and had with me on Flashdrive for installation.
And we are running our Managers on Win 7 on factory 3u hardware.

We ran it USB - we have not tried Firewire on the MOTU. Never liked Firewire on a Windows box much.
