christie projector and coolux

Postby art_production » Fri Feb 03, 2012 10:42 pm

Hello.....please help!

When our system was set-up I wasn't involved so I lack strong skills in networking. I know that our christie projectors can be networked into the system and run off of pandora (i.e. programing when to open/close a shutter). My problem is I am not sure how to do that. Could someone please help me? I know how to get all the network information off of the projectors...just not sure how to put it into coolux.

Thank-You,
Lauren

I was just using this feature last week.

I had a DMX fixture patched, and had PB outputting Artnet...

You have to set up your projector to accept Artnet, then patch it (subnet 1, universe 1, address 1 for example)

Then, depending on your projector - the 2 different ones I was using:

It was set to "show mode"

channel 1 is "safe mode" it has to be 255 to change anything;
channel 2 is "video mode" it has to be 255 to not have the video frozen;
channel 3 is "shutter" 0 - 85 is closed; 125 - 255 is open;
channel 4 - 16 can stay unpatched - these channels will output 0, which is ok for the projector to receive.

It was a little tricky getting this to receive art net properly, but once we did, it worked fine.
The only unfortunate part is that the shutter does not fade - it just shuts no matter how fast or slow you fade the value.

Let me know how it goes,

Hi everybody,

here is the way to work with TCP connections directly to the Christie projectors.

- add the "serial link" device to your device tab (out of the "Device Types")
- select the serial link and open the inspector
- deselect "use serial link header"
- type in the right IP-address of the projector and its connection port (e.g. 3002 for Christie Mirage 3D projectors)
- click "apply IP and port"
- now the red exclamation mark on the serial link device disappears
=> you are connected to the projector

- insert key frames on the timeline (by right clicking) where ever you want to send commands to the projector
- click on the created key frame and edit the data you want to send, in the inspector in the "data" field
- refer to the user manual of the projector to get the specific commands you want to send (e.g. (SHU 0) or (SHU 1) to open and close the shutter)
- as soon as the now pointer reaches the key frame the command is send via the TCP connection to the projector

Hope this helps and makes it easier to set everything up.

Cheers,
Markus

Hi Markus,
Everything is clear need to know one thing that do we have to connect the projector to our local LAN through cat5 cable where we have taken all our machines on local LAN.

Hi Mayank,

if your question is, if the projector (or any other device) and Pandoras Box have to be in the same network... yes, of course. Otherwise the Serial link would not be able to connect to its IP adress

Hi Rafael,

basically we are doing nothing else than setting up a standardized TCP connection and sending the desired information you add to the keyframes.
As the Sanyo XF-47 has no network plug and therefor no possibility of establishing a TCP-connection, it will not work with this kind, but with other Sanyo projectors.

The XF-47 has a RS-232 connection and can be controlled with this kind of connection.

Hello Rafael,
yes. TCP enables that somebody who speaks the correct language can talk to a device, that means you can send data and receive data IF you know how the exact language of the device is. If you send wrong commands, the device does not understand them. Kind of, if you speak swedish to me, I do not understand you and cannot answer correctly eventhough I can hear you very well.

If you have a device which has no TCP plug it is deaf.
If you have a device which has this, you need to find out the 100% exact way to send the commands.

hi rafael,

it should be written down in the projectors manual or it is possible to be set by the user just like the IP address, then you can have a look in the projectors browser interface or onscreen menu

Hello,

yes this one looks good...
http://uk.sanyo.com/AssetBrowser/Projectors/PLC-XM100L%20Basic%20RS232%20Control%20Codes.pdf

For the Christie LX505
http://www.christiedigital.com/SupportDocs/Anonymous/020-000241-01-Christie-LX505-LX605-RS232-Serial-Communications.pdf
after setting up the connection you use the serial link as describe above and within the keyinformation Data: you type the command eg
(COA[CR])
(CO1 [CR])
(CO5 [CR LF])
whether the space and or the carriage return and or linefeed has to be send depends on the specific device. Just give it a shot ;). Some are not as "picky" as others. Sending a carriage return too much would not harm. As well you can use the commands within the Widget Designer in scripts like TCPSend,1,(COA[CR])
