Multidongles?

Postby VisuaLies » Mon Apr 23, 2012 8:54 pm

I can, via Googletranslate, understand that multible dongles can give more options, layers and outputs.

Can you explain that in details?

Hi!

Never trust google translate, but you are still right! :-)

Having two or more player dongles of the same kind attached to your system will activate the "multi-license"-mode while starting Pandoras Box. You will see this directly in the name of your window. Having a Player STD you normally have 2 video layers and 1 camera/output.

Attaching two dongles will give you 2 camera/outputs and 4 video layers. This is as well possible with more than 2 dongles as this will always extend your cameras and layers. Technically there is no limit. Just the USB-ports on your computer OR, and this will be the problem, the amount of outputs on your graphic card.

As Pandoras Box will only handle one graphic card at a time you need to have all desired outputs on one graphic card. As there are cards with 4 outputs on the market, we have tested this scenario with up to 4 dongles at a time.
The multi-license-mode is useable as Master and Client.

With this mode you are able to save hardware and you it makes it easier to setup a softedge as you only need one playback system and therefor only one layer on the timeline, etc. ...
In addition, having a multi-license used for a softedge will give you 4 layers (STD) in difference on using it in a normal way with two players on their own hardware.

Hope this makes it more clear than google! :-)

Hi there,

we cannot advice any graphic cards with more than 2 outputs as we have not tested them for performance reasons.
I know that we have an ASUS EYEFINITY6 to handle up to 6 outputs. This is just a test card for multiple outputs and as already said, we cannot recommend anything on that regarding performances.

ok, I have a second question...
if I have a graphic card with 4 output and 2 dongle is possible to use one output for the graphic interface and the other two outputs for the fullscreen mode?

Best regards

Hi Franco,

at the moment there is a little known issue, that if you have more displays than dongles (e.g. 3 displays / 2 dongles) attached, the fullscreen will be on the third display as well showing the image of the second one.

That means, that you cannot use the GUI at the same time as two outputs on a card like this.
We have to test another scenario with two graphic cards in a system to have the fullscreen on one card (2 outs) and the GUI on another card.

As soon as I know more about this scenario, I'll let you know.

Hi again,

at the moment it is not possible to use two graphic cards within a Pandoras Box setup.
Whenever you want to switch to more than one displays at a time to fullscreen make sure to have only one graphic card attached to your system.

Sorry for more question,
but if I have one card with 4 output, now is possible to use 2 dongle in fullscreen mode and have a GUI interface?
The question because at the moment i have a gtx570 card, it is out of production, and I would purchase a second card, if more forward the system will support two card.
Or choose sale about this card and purchase a four output gtx570.

Thanks in advance

Is there any updated information about multidongle scenarios?
Specifically we would like to use a single card triple-head - do you have any tested configurations you can confirm as being compatible?
Thanks,
Neil.
