if you go to your project tab and do a right click on the top folder, an option should show up that says add text (media, input or something like that; unfortunately I am not sitting in front of a machine but you will find out real fast).
By what I remember is that the name that media is given will show up as text if you put that file onto a layer. In the inspector you can change the font and the size. All video and colour effects will apply to that file, depending on what kind of layer it was placed on.
it is right that you can add a text input with a right mouse click in the project window. But this will not load a file. You can type a text and save it with a font and a size. But you can use the Color FX "Color only" to change the colors. The video FX will not affect the text input.
If you need to load a text file like a word document, you need to convert it to jpeg or bmp.
