Audio in sync

Postby Stouenborg » Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:05 am

Hi Pandora team

You recommend to encode files as "Elementary Video" for a good synchronized playback, but how do I play videos with audio in sync?

Hi Kasper,

if you have a video file containing audio, the best solution is to split it up into seperate elementary video and elementary audio files and to put it on two different layers. A real audio sync is not possible due to the fact that the audio sample rate of 48 kHz would blow the network traffic.

Best regards,

Hi Kasper

we have many projects that used audio playback from the Master and synchronized video from a client.

In the tests we made the audio and video stayed in sync even with files over 60 minutes length.

As audio uses high frequency timers and the synchronization is tied to the masters system clock the drifts are unpercievalbel with this playback length.

The only thing that can happen is if you jump back and forth constantly is that the video might need more time to re synchronize.

Best regards

Thanks for your advises.
The thing is that i am programing from a Grand MA, so to me it is all about getting the files started at the exact same time.

Dear Kaspar

are you using one or multiple Servers or players?

if its a single unit then you are fine.

If its multiple you might want to patch the layers that are supposed to get their dmx packet in the same time frame into the same DMX universe.

As it is possible that there can be an offset of up to 40ms in between individual DMX universes sent by a console.

Best regards
