BW Media as Mask for Premultiplied Content

Postby Daniel Kaminski » Tue Oct 08, 2013 1:57 pm

Hi,

We have created a new Masking FX so that you can use SDI Key and Fill, even if the Fill is already premultiplied with Alpha.
Just copy the cfx file into your
C:\Program Files (x86)\coolux\Pandoras Box V5 Manager Pro Rev 8790\data\fx\shader\Masking
Folder.

I have a question about this effect. Is this meant to be used in conjunction with HDSDI input cards?

Hi,

yes this is primarily ment for the HDSDI problem with premultiplied alpha.

Best regards

Hi,

it actually works with any content where the alpha channel got premultiplied into the Fill Channel.
We ran into needing this FX when one of our customers used the BW Media as Mask FX in order to Key in a Chyron CG System.
The Chyron System sends out 2 HD-SDI Feeds. A FILL and a KEY. For some reason this system sends out the FILL Premultiplied.

To make it look ok, you need to use this FX or change the blend mode of the layer to premultiplied alpha.

Copy. I think I am familiar with the client. I am trying something similar and finding that the "sync" on the HDSDI inputs is WAYY better then the DVI inputs. Do you concur? Also Do you believe that sync would also hold up when using the Quad HDSDI input card?

I am not 100% sure I understand what you mean?
Do you mean signal sync or the sync between 2 HD-SDI / 2 DVI Signals?

2 HD-SDI Signals will stay in sync if they are locked (Genlock Signal)
2 DVI Signals will also stay in sync if they are locked (Framelock card)

Since we do not extra delay Liveinputs inside Pandoras Box, they will stay in sync if they come in in sync.

I am talking about inputs only. I have seen delay on the inputs of DVI. I think what you are saying is the locking of the outputs. Am I correct?
And Both of these locking signals are mainly in the Broadcast Server. Correct?

I have done tests with 2 and 4 dvi inputs where they stayed exactly locked. (Source content at 3840x2160 with lots of horizontal and vertical motion, projected out and photographed for errors).
If the bus is over-saturated then you can induce some amount of weird delay or frame loss, but this is not related directly to the input card. I found that you can do up to 4x DVI 1920x1080 inputs at 30fps, or 3x at 60fps before you will see an error. But - if you are playing other content it could mess you up.

Does this mean that when hardware changes to pci 3.0 with double the bandwidth solves these problems and let us capture 4x DVI 1080P@60fps?
