Pre Roll?

Postby frozenwaffles » Tue May 20, 2014 12:08 am

Can someone please explain to me the backend of 'pre roll' in Pandoras Box?
What is happening when you get it to do pre roll? is it in a pause state? does it play that amount of time before you get to the play container/marker?

In an older version of the PB it would actually show you in the Device Tab when an asset was loaded onto a layer / in the Graphics Card.

I believe that the Pre-Roll still loads the asset into the Graphics card memory (paused) so it is standing by when it actually needs to play.

Hi,

the preroll will preload the video into the GPU ram, so that if you hit the clip it will be loaded already and can run. The preroll does not affect the starting point of the video once you will run into the clip. So the video will start from frame 1 no matter how long the preroll is set.
You will need the preroll mainly for big videos like 4K files if you want to run into a smooth fade in without a hard jump.
Please keep in mind that the nowpointer will need to run thru the preroll time to make it work. If you jump straight to the beginning of the clip instead of running thru the preroll it does not take any effect.

best regards

Patrick
