2432 x 896 LED wall

Postby tjay » Wed Jan 07, 2015 9:13 am

HI All,

PB manager
PB dual server
Coolux hardware.

I am doing an event where there are 2 separate LED walls with 2432 x 896 pixels.
Graphics will be provided at pixel for pixel ratio .avi
I will convert to .mxl

Can I set the outputs on server to 2432 x 896 ? one for each LED wall. If not can advise what output resolution is best for this situation.

Regarding My time line,For each que I normally use 8 layers of Video looped plus a couple of graphic layers, and fade up / down when required. Will my coolux hardware be able to handle this ?

Thanks

How many processors are feeding one video wall? There are very few LED processors that will take one signal greater than 1920 x 1080 so I think you will need two outputs per video wall.

If you plan to have 8 layers of 2432 x 896 .mxl constantly looping all at once, I think your server might struggle. But I've never tested this exact setup.
What manager version have you got?

Dear Erica,

Thanks for the response, From the LED processor manual - 'Support user-defined output resolution, maximum horizontal 3840 pixel, and maximum
vertical 1920 pixel.'

Can Pandora's box output this resolution via 1 DVI output ? Or is it limited to 1920 x 1080 ?

My manager version is V5 light windows xp (Coolux hardware) Rev 10386.

The output resolution is based off the EDID from your display device.
The actual pixel count on an LED wall usually does not match it's EDID. Most often you will have to position the content within a larger EDID space.

Also - your maximum resolutions you listed do not say you can make a 3840x1920. They say the max resolution in either direction. The total pixel count will be relevant.

To answer your question though - PB can produce outputs at greater than 1920x1080, but there are issues with DVI transporting too much information. You will definitely need nice quality, short, dual link DVI cables. These are hardware limitations, not limitations of the software. The other big factor is your video card. Depending on when your server was built, you will may have a more modern, powerful video card that will help.

Hello,

Note that output resolutions are not limited in Pandoras Box. Anything the graphics card is able to output will be fine. A limiting factor found in brochures is the size of content. On Player licences the Videos & Image Sequences are limited to FullHD or 4K depending on licence type. Still images are only limited by the graphic card's capabilities which is usually around 16K on modern cards.
