Newbie and some connection Questions

Postby joolsmeister » Fri Jun 26, 2015 1:39 pm

Hi All

Okay, for starters Im new to PB. I am a regular AI and Hippo user but for the sake of this post just assume Im a newbie.

At the moment I have provided a design to a club here in dubai primarily for lighting but also re configured their LED wall. At the moment they are using an Arkaos media server.
On going through their stock room of various items I came across a PB Dual Player....Apparently they bought the unit 3 years ago and used it once...it then went back in the box and was never used again.
I want to change this as I have been on shows where Pandora is used a lot ( mostly for corporate shows ) but I realise the power of what it can do and see no point in it gathering dust.

Configuration from what I can make out is 2 x SDI , 1 x HDMI out and an input card with 2 BNC's. Pretty much the same as the AI config I use often.

So, basically I need to know the following.
1. As the unit here has 2 ouput cards I assuming that as is the case with a lot of servers 1 card does the GUI and the other card will be main output. Can this however be run so that both outputs can be the main outs with maybe the PB manager running on a seperate computer? If so how do I go about doing this? I have tried to install PB software on my laptop but it just says no dongle found. ( note I have the laptop I want to run the PB manager on ethernetted to the Dual player and they do see each other )
2. Can I configure PB so that I can control the colours and efx of the output from a lighting desk ( Roadhog 4 ) but have the Video Operator control and trigger the clips from his current Akai Midi controller? WIll PB allow this sort of configuration or will I run into HTP LTP priority problems?
3. Are there any really good Video Tutorials out there apart from the standard ones? I would love to do a PB training session but unfortunatley time is not on my size and will have no chance to travel or take time out from the refit to do training.

All your comments and suggestions gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Hello,

Pandoras Box Servers and Players have DVI connectors on the machine itself. If you find BNC (the ones used for SDI) connectors then they are either SDI inputs OR Genlock of the sync board (next to the graphics card) OR Audio connectors (usually installed a bit more to the right).

If you have a separate DVI Processor box then you connect the two DVI outputs of the graphics card to the inputs of the processor. 4 single DVI output DVIs are provided from the processor.

To run a Manager software you have to have a Manager Dongle. However all Pandoras Box systems can run as Master mode where a GUI is provided. So you start the Server (or Player) machine as Master to get access to the GUI. From there you add content and configure the machine to be used with a lighting console. To use a lighting console the easiest way is to create a new project in Lighting Mode. The patching is done automatically for you. If you want to configure it further, bring up the PATCH Tab from the TABS menu (found at the top of the GUI OR CTRL+P). Once you have patched the different Parameters (such as Opacity, X/Y/Z Position) you have to decide for a protocol). Available protocols include Art-Net, MA Net (1/2/2.9+), sAcn and (if you have our USB DMX Link) DMX. To select a protocol bring up the Configuration Tab (behind the preview top right panel), section Remote Control Inputs.

DMX Libraries for the Wholehog2 are provided at http://www.coolux.de/index.php?id=dowload-center#file/cat-17/file-144 but I dont know if they still apply to your lighting desk. If not, the tables are provided at http://www.coolux.de/root/downloads/sup ... tables.htm

If you need any further assistance try the following:

1. Have a look at the tutorials
2. Have a look at the manual at http://manual.coolux.de/ , the manual is also included in the Pandoras Box install and can be accessed from the start menu or from Pandoras Box (top menu bar) HELP
3. Contact your local distributor. You can find a list of distributors at our website http://www.coolux.de/contact/
4. Send an E-Mail to coolux support OR call them. http://www.coolux.de/support/customerservice/

It is hard to give a training via phone, but if you have any specific questions you can directly call the coolux support line.

Regards
Dennis

I''ll move the topic to Pandoras Box forum, as the Tutorial section is meant for Tutorials.
