Hello all,
A "new" "old" coolux guy here. I've got a version 4.7 (ya, a classic there!) and looking to upgrade to version 5.x in the next few weeks.
Looking at the options of what to set up for my system and am finding options for system specs, from 2008. (most likely am really bad at searching the forums!) Any suggestions?
Right now, I know I'm going to load HEAVY on RAM (not doing EEC but am looking at having that as an option later on...), dual SSD for the OS/programme, Might just do a mirror right now for data, but will RAID 1/0 as soon as I can. And as many cores as my wallet can afford!
What are the hot video cards that can and can't handle 4K. I don't see myself needing that at the moment, but if the cost factor isn't that great, I'll set up for 4K early.
The other options I'm already thinking on are: case (racked), air/water cooled (water if the overall cost isn't too great).
What am I missing?
Also, been a LONG time since I loaded up a system, any hints on what I need to have as base files installed on the system. I converted to Mac many years ago, so a bit out of the loop. Am thinking Win 7 since that will most likely be easier to find then XP. I do own an older White (anyone remember those!!??)
The whole exercise of this is to determine if I can at some point soon (end of year soon actually) justify a Quad and another dual server. But first, gotta sell it to both several clients and a fairly major University in Auckland. That goes well, I'll be dropping by Germany to pick up a few systems.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Feel free to contact me off-list if you want.
I'm looking to get this built and sorted by the end of August so I can arrange with the boss (wife) the dosh for a Quad.
Cheers!!
Paul
