How do you deal with servers that have been rented out

Postby markvandermeulen » Thu Apr 14, 2016 6:47 pm

Hello Forummembers,
I have a question about how you guys deal with machines that are rented out to others and how you set them back to defaults

The ting i ran into is that after a while my disks are getting filled with showfiles and content used in old shows. I would like to know how others deal with this especially because i'am now re-installing my own server, so i could create an image of the basics and after each rental i could set this image back to the server

Thanks in advance

Hi Mark,

On servers you have the factory reset tool where you can create your own custom image of the system.

Preparation:
1. Revert machine to factory reset
2. Install latest PB & WD + do configuration as you wish
3. Create a user image

Rental:
1. Rent
2. After getting it back from the customer, revert to user image + delete contents
3. be happy

Regards
Dennis

Hi Dennis
Thanks for your replyq
I havent made myself clear, the servers in this case arent the Coolux workstations but selfbuild servers with player dongles
Do you have any tips for that aswell?

Thanks

Re-image them on return. I use Acronis, but there are other choices.

As a personal pet peeve though - please don't call Players "Servers". I do support and this is a constant confusion for people that are new to the system. I end up going in circles with them for a long time before we realize they are not actually Servers. Admittedly, the names are a bit arbitrary, but they are what they are and if we get them mixed up it is at minimum confusing and at worst deceptive as someone could think they have paid for a product they have not actually received.

Another great tool for creating images is Clonezilla.
