upgrading the server hardware to run version 4

Postby ecueto1 » Tue Aug 12, 2008 7:40 pm

Hello everyone.
We have a Pandora box media server working at the moment with a version 2.0 because it's the only time that this stable (our Media Server has approximately 3 years).
The configuration we use is 2 projectors 10,000 lumen doing a screen totalling some 16 meters wide by 6 high. Each projector makes half the screen with blender.

My question is, whether it is worth upgrading the server hardware to run version 4, or on the contrary if the investment is too large to be worthwhile.

Working with only 8 layers on a screen so big today is a hassle.

I tried the version 4 leaving only 12 layers, but the system is unreliable, to 3 different video layers no longer plays, and so on.

If it is worth the upgrade, I would like to know an approximate cost.

Thank you very much.

Dear Eduardo

your hardware revision is one of the first revision that were available. Back then the playbackperformance was less due to processors and graficcards technology that was available at that time. Today the performance has increased drastically compared to rev 1 hardware. The actual dual quad processors provide up to 2 FULL HD 1920x1080, or 4x 720p, or 8x Pal/ Ntsc layers in realtime with effects.

The reason why your system might not be able to handle the newer version might be due to the increased complexity of effects since version 3.

Best regards
