Network Adapter Priority

Postby Dennis Kuypers » Mon Sep 21, 2015 11:12 am

To specify the priority of the network adapters, there are two settings that you can try.

1. Network Binding Order

Bring up the Network Control Panel where you see all the connections/adapters listed. (You can press WIN+R, then type ncpa.cpl, press enter to get there)
Now from the menu bar click Advanced -> Advanced Settings. If you do not see the menu (The one where you can see things like File, Edit in regular applications) then simply press the ALT Key to reveal.
In the Adapters and Bindungs Tab use the Connections Area: Select the connection that you want to move higher in the list. Use the arrow buttons to move the connection.

2. Adapter Metric

Bring up the Network Control Panel where you see all the connections/adapters listed. (You can press WIN+R, then type ncpa.cpl, press enter to get there)
Right click a connection and click Properties. In the popup click Properties. At the bottom of the window change the metric to influence adapter priority.
It is suggested that you go no lower than 2, because that might interfere with the local loopback adapter. The lower the value, the higher the priority, eg. set the metric to 2 to make applications use this adapter.
