Nvidia GTX1080 graphic cards

Postby markvandermeulen » Wed Oct 05, 2016 8:21 am

Hello everyone
I'am planning on upgrading my player computers (self build rack computers) These have GTX 780 cards but those aren't running as smooth as i would like
Now my plan is to upgrade to Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1080 8gb graphic cards
Anyone have tested these or know limitations/problems of/with those cards?
The players are mostly used to run video along lighting, pixelmapping of led arrays and for warping

Thanks in advance

Hello,

I am not aware of any Nvidia GPU that causes trouble. You just have to have the correct driver and you should be fine. The latest driver is not always the most stable. The Quadro cards offer some nice features like Mosaic, Framelock and EDID Management. If you don't need them you can use a Geforce series card.

I have a colleague who has upgraded about 30 Players' graphics cards to the 1080 and they are very very happy with them.

They've run several shows without any problems.

I personally have been on the show that Justyn was referring too and saw that the 1080's worked flawlessly in high number of layer counts with Alpha. For my own machines we are using either Quadro M4000's, Quadro K4200's or K5200's all depending on the needs of the show but mainly due to the fact that we need genlock for these machines.
