Intense lag build up when using midi inputs

Postby claude.rivet » Fri Jul 12, 2013 9:54 pm

Hello!

I use a MIDI controller to control PB, made a widget and included other functions in the widget; buttons triggering videos in PB, other controlling layers opacity and other to handle audio. It's a 9 page WD project and uses > 200 variables, most of which used to store values to be recalled using a MIDI controller pad. Nothing too fancy but very usefull. The problem comes from the usage of the MIDI controller faders and pots. If I don't use the faders everything runs fine but if I use them, slowly the PB machine becomes less and less responsive. Even after I closed both the WD and the manager. I have to reboot so it becomes usable again.

I played with the node interval and other parameters in the option menu but it doesn't seem to affect much, also, I cannot change the node priority parameter which always revert to bellow normal.

I am using PB manager 5.5 and WDPro 3.5 which is probably not an optimal setup.

Any idea how to solve that?

If needed I can probably send you guys the WIdget I made.

Thank you!

Hi Claude,

What MIDI device are you using?
How is your MIDI device connected to the machine?
Can you see what process is causing the performance issues?
Does the Task Manager show you an increased CPU/RAM usage?

Best regards

The MIDI device is the APC-40, connected via USB. I was unable to isolate the process causing the issue as the task manager shows every process running at 0% and PB at 23-26%. Even when PB and WD are closed the computer remains slow I need to reboot to solve the issue. Notable detail I forgot to mention, I am using a viewsonic TD2220 touchscreen also.

Also good to note: I am not using the apc-40 preconfigured template located in the tool menu, I am using MIDI input nodes.

Hi,

I dont know about any problems in such a scenario. Although sometimes defective USB devices can slow down the whole system. I had a broken USB Hub which made the machine take 10 minutes to reboot.

Can you check if it is not coming from either one of the devices?

Best regards

Solution found, sorry it took so long to report back.

Not knowing it could be an issue I was running WDpro on the same machine as the Manager. As soon as the Widget was moved to a different machine everything started behaving correctly again, it makes sense, took too long to realize it. Also, we finally have upgraded to the latest version, sometimes all you need to convince your company to buy something is to show them it's useful with a good working example :)
