Curved screen / Range Note

Hello Al,

At a theater in amsterdam we got a huge curved widescreen thats can move in 2 parts.

Part 1 Screen Stage Left
Part 2 Screen Stage Right

The zero of the screens is in de middle of the stage.
For the public will it than be 180degrees of projection.

When the stage opens the screens start to move to the next (UDP data )

Screen Stage left move's more to the left and go's to -7999 ( mm)
Screen Stage Right move's more to the Right and go's to 7999 ( mm)

Maximale value's of Screen Stage Left.
Maximal open/wide: -18299
Maximal Closed:130740

Maximale value's of Screen Stage Right.
Maximal open/wide: 18299
Maximal closed:-14482

What to create is to move layers & Mask effect connected to the opening and closing of the screens

I try with a range note with the next settings.

Filter Range Properties:

Input : Variable of value Screen Stage Left.

Input min : -18299.000 ( Maximal open position screen )
Input max : 13740.000 ( Maximal closed position screen )
Output min: -20.338 (Layer X position that match with the screen )
Output Max: 14.562 (Layer X position that match with the screen )

Input : Variable of value Screen Stage Right.

Input min : 18299.000 ( Maximal open position screen )
Input max : -130740 ( Maximal closed position screen )
Output min: -14.482 (Layer X position that match with the screen )
Output Max: 19.918 (Layer X position that match with the screen )

But i move the screens around for the values between the op en close.
Its not move like i want to.

Like this settings:

Screen SL : UDP Mark: -7999
Layer x position manually : -8.860
Layer x position from node: -17.926

Screen SR : UDP Mark: 7999
Layer x position manually : 8.780
Layer x position from node: 17.540
Thats is a difference of 8.780

So the questions:

1. With node's with this setup ( curved screen & linear measurement ) to get a good value in the center of the projection.
2. with Node SR how do i need to swap the negative value of the input and output ?
3. Suggestions to do this better and working

Best Regards

Hello Mark,

the range node does a linear translation of one range to another. You can try the Range Curve node instead. Feed it with correct values and it should be able to tell you where the layer should be.
