Fine Adjust Masking Tools in Warper

Postby john.spencer » Sat Aug 22, 2015 6:22 am

The Mask tools in the Warper are difficult to control when we need to fine adjust it along diagonals and other unique surfaces.
It would be wonderful have a pen tools and a Marquee tool, like in Photoshop, to custom select a certain region, then fill it in.
As it is right now, we make a temp mask, pull that into Photoshop and make a new version to import into Pandora's.
It would save a lot of time to do an exact mask without the back and forth of going from Warper, to PS, to PB, back to Warper and so on.

Agreed. I'd like to have the feature as in photoshop where i can click my brush in an area and then hold down shift and click in another area and the brush automatically makes a straight line between the two points. This would help massively when wanting to make a smooth diagonal line.

what other things are you missing in the masking tool?
We are aware that some things are missing, so please update the list and describe the functions if unclear.

We will add it all to the feature requests for this tool and see what we can do.

Hi Daniel,

for working with masks I find it essential not only to create vector shapes with linear and bezier nodes, but also to be able to blur certain shapes to get soft edges where they are needed.
Would be awesome to have this feature in the warper. One of the few things that are missing, before Pandoras Box becomes the perfect tool for video projection.

Best wishes,
David

Also, keyboard control of masking handles would be great. I rarely find myself doing precision work in the Warper using a mouse or tablet.

Add a "load" button.
You can save a mask in the Warper but there is no way to load it again.

This seems like a weird one to miss out, especially if you are doing a complex mask and you just want to save every few minutes as you add more to it. If you make a mistake and want step back by loading the last saved version, you don't seem to be able to do this.

@simon: totally

I think that if vector drawing tools are added to the mask editor, then the warper should save the vector handles themselves, instead of just a flattened .png. If the masks were a munch of vectors that you can tweak to make minor adjustments, instead of pixels you have to draw and erase, it would be a much more powerful tool.

Hi everyone,

I wrote a masking app, that includes the features mentioned in this thread.
It can be used to create smooth vector masks, which then can be imported into PB or any other projection software.
You can download it here: http://davidfortmann.ch/zorro.html
Consider it beta and let me know, if you like or if you ran into any problems.

Best wishes,
David
