Multitouch Panel to control X/Y of emitter

Postby frozenwaffles » Sat Nov 02, 2013 6:21 am

Hi, I would like to be able to control the X and Y values of an emitter instead of the layer (as moving the layer does not move the emitter as well) in multiple multitouch panels.
Is there a way to do this...

Basically what I want to achieve is Particles emitting from wherever someone 'touches' airscan :)
if they use one hand to move something, then particles come from tat one hand, if they use two then particles come from those two locations.
If two people are interacting with the one 'surface' and they both use two hands to do something, then I want 4 emitters working....
Make sense?

I have found that the easiest way to do this is with Nodes:

My node strings usually look like this when setting up this effect:

AirScan Multi-Point - > 3 x Range Nodes (1 for X, 1 for Y and 1 for Active/Emit) - > 3 x Device Control

This way you don't have to rely on a mouse cursor or something like that.

Also, you can simply copy and paste this string of nodes - change the numbers and apply the same setting to the layers in PB.

You set the AirScan Multi-Point node for each input you want 1-4 if you want 4.

I usually set the Range Nodes to be able to go full screen (something like min= -4 and max=4 for X)
I will set the Active Range node so I get the output (1 = 150 particles / sec)

I've also set it up with many more input points and had that last line change for all of the Particles/sec so there wouldn't be too many particles. When there were over 4 active inputs, the number changed to 100 particles/sec.
Over 6 - 75 / sec and so on. This stopped the system from getting too overwhelmed.

I hope this points you in the right direction.
Let me know if there is any other way I can help.
