Live input from a modern mac

Postby VisuaLies » Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:36 pm

Hi

I need to have a live input from a mac notebook. I do not need high quality/resolution.
I'm a PC guy...

My Players(pro) are fitted with composite inputs, but it seems there are no composite output adapters to mac anymore. It's analog, mac only produces digital DVI outputadapters (as far as I know).

I would love to fit SDI/HD-SDI inputcards(maybe Black Magic) to my players, but mac does not support SDI..?

Any ideas on this?

Though I haven't tried it... Mac does make VGA adapters.
Apple doesn't make any "SDI adapters..." per say.

I don't know if a VGA whip will work or not (just using Green).

If you want to use a SDI capture - I use an AJA ROI to convert any resolution of DVI to any SDI compliant signal - SD, HD & 3G.
It works with any DVI source, not just a Mac.
This is the setup I usually use for Power Point machines and so on - AJA ROI -> Blackmagic Decklink Duo / Decklink Quad.

Hey..

Very similar to the post above ..
I use the black magic DVI extender.. converts DVI up to HD/SD SDI.. Only think to keep an eye on with some of these mini convertors is the input frequency.. IE the BM DVI extender will only do something like 30Hz at 1920x1080... So the computer graphics card has to be able to deal with that..(macs can.. !!)

Having said that.. I use this solution with my macbook all the time.. and it works perfect..

Macbook pro -- BM dvi extender -- BM sdi capture..

Good luck,, but watch the small print..
